Mark Cuban, co-founder and President of HDnet, will speak at Light Reading’s upcoming Cable Next-Gen Video Strategies conference on July 24 in Los Angeles. The Cable Next-Gen Video Strategies conference, hosted by Light Reading and Heavy Reading, its prestigious market research division, will take a comprehensive look at the cable industry’s attempts to fend off its leading rivals and generate fresh revenues by deploying next-generation video technologies. Cuban, who also co-founded Broadcast.com and owns the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks, will discuss HDTV, Internet video, video-on-demand (VOD), time-shifted programming, targeted advertising, and other new advanced video products and services. After Sony posted the top LCD TV share in Q4’07, Samsung edged slightly higher to retake the #1 LCD TV ranking in North America for the first time since Q1’07, rising to 12.8% unit share in a competitive category. Samsung maintained their share lead in combined flat panel TV comprising shipments of both LCD and Plasma TVs, according to preliminary findings from DisplaySearch’s latest Global TV Shipment and Forecast Report. Shoppers voted Pioneer KURO their favourite brand of television in 2007, according to independent review website Reevoo, which analysed over 15,000 customer reviews of televisions bought last year. In a TV market worth £6bn a year in the UK alone, Pioneer’s products were rated more highly than much larger rivals including Panasonic, Sony, Samsung and LG. (more…)

The Vizio 32″ LCD HDTV cost around $500 or so, depending on where you buy it. I bought mine at around $520. I also purchased the wallmount for it. This is my first HDTV LCD TV that I have ever owned and I love it. It has dual HDMI output connections as well as VGA output connection to hook it to your PC or what not. I have hooked this up to my PC via DVI connection and the quality isn’t as good as I thought it would be, but still very good. If you get the perfect resolution set for this TV it would look flawless, especially with HDMI. The max resolution for the Vizio 32″ is 1366 x 768 resolution. The HDMI cables run about $100, thats why I have not hooked this up via HDMI yet. (more…)

Sony said it would stop making rear-projection televisions, becoming the latest company to distance itself from a technology once seen as a promising rival of LCD and plasma displays in the flat-TV market. Sony said it would focus its resources on liquid crystal display (LCD) and organic light-emitting diode (OLED) technology to address the flat-TV market, which is growing rapidly as consumers trade in their boxy tube sets for sleeker flat screens. Sony began selling a new three-millimeter thick organic light emitting diode television–the first OLED TV to be launched in the world, says Yomiuri.co.jp. OLED TVs feature panels are made of a substance that lights up when electricity is passed through, doing away with the need for a backlight and allowing for the slim design. (more…)
