Skype S2

The S2 is even better looking than the original Skypephone. The front of the phone is strikingly different with chrome bars as keys, and it has a noticeably larger screen than the first version, but is only slightly weightier. The S2 has a neat line of applications and a Select button that takes you striaght to the central application.

The handset has an endless line of programs including Skype, Facebook, web feeds and Google. It also has a 3.2-megapixel camera and HSDPA data speeds. (more…)

  • It was announced today that the new version of the unlocking chip SIMable adds full support for 85% of the world’s mobile phones, including the infamous iPhone 3G, and all other smartphones. As reported by IT PRO, the iPhone 3G has achieved a market share of 17% in the US, making it second only to Motorola’s RAZR V3. With no unlocking software yet available, and the product just launched on Prepay, the demand for a stable and easy unlocking solution is phenomenal. (more…)

  • iPhone 3G: 3 million units in a month

    Fortune says: In its first month on the market, Apple’s iPhone 3G has sold 3 million units, says Michael Cote of Cote Collaborative, far surpassing the performance of the first-generation iPhone after its first month in 2007. “They are seeing unprecedented demand,” said the former T-Mobile executive, whom Fortune’s Steve Morritz claims has been “extremely accurate” with his wireless predictions.   • Softbank: 2G is history

    Japan’s Softbank today said it will close down its 2G network by the end of March 2010 in an effort to focus on 3G services, reports Dow Jones Newswires. Although the smallest of the country’s three major mobile operators with approximately 19 million subscribers according to Wireless Intelligence, Softbank is one of Japan’s fastest growing operators, with a total year-on-year connection growth rate of 16.25 percent.     Nokia has added the N78 to its global website which means that the official launch will be very soon. A full specification can be found below. A link to the Nokia N78 page is at the foot of this page. The Nokia N78 is designed to take advantage of the new suite of Nokia services, including the Nokia Music Store, Nokia Maps, and Share on Ovi - a new online service that enables consumers to share their personal media.   • High Tech Computer announced the HTC Touch Diamond on Tuesday, a smartphone running Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional and with a touch screen designed for one-handed use. The new terminal is the 3g evrsion of HTC’s popular Touch smartphone. The Touch Diamond updates the series to 3G (third generation mobile telecommunications), beating rival Apple to the punch again.   • iPhone 3G confirmed by T-Mobile

    Mobile arm of Deutsche Telekom, T-Mobile, confirmed that Apple will soon announce a 3G-based iPhone and said that its Austrian customers would be among the first to get their hands on the new smart phone, according to a newspaper report from Vienna. Der Standard, an Austrian national daily, posted a story to its German-language Web site quoting T-Mobile saying a 3G iPhone would be available “soon” and that the Austria would be one the first markets to see the new Apple smart phone.   • Telstra drops CDMA and switches to 3G

    The Australian government has given Telstra the green light to shut down its CDMA network in favour of its new high-speed 3G network. According to The Australian newspaper, the ten year old network could be switched off within two weeks. (more…)

  • Samsung has reportedly won a deal to supply China Mobile with new handsets ahead of the long-awaited launch of the operator’s 3G network. According to Taiwan’s DIGITIMES today, industry sources have revealed that Samsung has been selected to supply a portion of the 60,000 3G handsets China Mobile ordered this month as part of a commercial trial of its TD-SCDMA network, China’s version of 3G. The operator began trialling the network in eight Chinese cities this month with an eye to launching a full service in time for the Beijing Olympics later in the year. (more…)
