Alibaba announced revenue of 114.3 million dollars in the third quarter of 2008, up 37% from the same period of 2007 and 6% from the second quarter of 2008. The company has expanded its market leadership by adding 3.1 million registered users during the quarter, making the total number of registered users of its combined marketplaces 35.6 million as of September 31, 2008, an increase of 40% year-on-year and 10% quarter-on-quarter. Alibaba.com announced the beta launch of Export-to-China, a new service which will enable international entrepreneurs and small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) to sell direct to China’s growing number of buyers. Export-to-China will provide international suppliers with a Chinese-language online storefront on Alibaba.com’s China marketplace, which has an active community of over 25 million buyers and suppliers. Alibaba.com opened its fourth functional office outside mainland China today. The new Taipei office will be able to better serve its 40,000 local members and enable more small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) in Taiwan to grow their business through e-commerce. (more…)
