  • Alibaba.com announced the beta launch of Export-to-China, a new service which will enable international entrepreneurs and small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) to sell direct to China’s growing number of buyers. Export-to-China will provide international suppliers with a Chinese-language online storefront on Alibaba.com’s China marketplace, which has an active community of over 25 million buyers and suppliers.   • China Mobile Communications Corporation (China Mobile) has entered into a frame agreement with Nokia Siemens Networks (www.nsn.com) for its network expansion project. Under the contract Nokia Siemens Networks will design, build, maintain and optimize the radio and core network for China Mobile, which will include the market-leading energy efficient Flexi base station, mobile softswitching and Operating Support System solutions in key provinces and cities across China.   • Vimetco Drops Romania Investment

    The international industrial group Vimetco announced that its planned investment for Romania’s Alro Slatina aluminium plant will be relocated to China. Vimetco, which bought Alro in 2002, said a year ago that it will invest about $ 750 million to double the production capacity of aluminium in Romania.

  • Samsung has reportedly won a deal to supply China Mobile with new handsets ahead of the long-awaited launch of the operator’s 3G network. According to Taiwan’s DIGITIMES today, industry sources have revealed that Samsung has been selected to supply a portion of the 60,000 3G handsets China Mobile ordered this month as part of a commercial trial of its TD-SCDMA network, China’s version of 3G. The operator began trialling the network in eight Chinese cities this month with an eye to launching a full service in time for the Beijing Olympics later in the year. (more…)
