comScore released its monthly comScore qSearch analysis of the U.S. search marketplace. In June 2008, Americans conducted 11.5 billion core searches, representing a 7-percent gain versus May. Google Sites retained its lead in the U.S. core search market capturing 61.5 percent of the searches conducted, down slightly from 61.8 percent in May. Google was followed by Yahoo! Sites (20.9 percent, up from 20.6 percent in May), Microsoft Sites (9.2 percent, up from 8.5 percent in May), Ask Network (4.3 percent), and AOL LLC (4.1 percent). (more…)

ComScore released its monthly analysis of U.S. top online properties for April 2008. April saw Google attain the number one spot for the first time in its history with a total audience of more than 141 million visitors. Content categories showing gains in April included job search, career resources, and television sites.
“April was a very active month. Google took the top property position, thanks to continued search growth and rapid growth at YouTube,” commented Jack Flanagan, executive vice president of comScore Media Metrix. “The significant traffic growth at tax sites, which began in January, reached a crescendo by the tax filing deadline on April 15 as taxpayers sought information, forms, and online filing facilities. The return of the network television programs after the writers strike sent fans to a variety of sites to get information on their favorite shows, catch up on episodes they may have missed, get refreshed on plotlines, and to stream new episodes.” (more…)

U.S. Internet users viewed more than 10 billion online videos during the month, representing a 3-percent gain versus January (despite February being two days shorter) and a 66-percent gain versus February 2007, according to comScore Video Metrix. In February, Google Sites once again ranked as the top U.S. video
property with nearly 3.6 billion videos viewed (35.4 percent share of all videos), gaining 1.1 share points versus the previous month. YouTube.com accounted for 96 percent of all videos viewed at Google Sites. Fox
Interactive Media ranked second with 586 million videos (5.8 percent), followed by Yahoo! Sites with 293 million (2.9 percent) and Microsoft Sites with 293 million (2.9 percent). (more…)

comScore released its monthly comScore qSearch analysis of the search marketplace. February 2008 saw Americans conduct nearly 10 billion core searches, representing a 6-percent sequential decline in activity versus January, primarily a result of the shortened month. In February, Google Sites extended its share of core searches to 59.2 percent, up from 58.5 percent the previous month. Yahoo! Sites ranked second with 21.6 percent, followed by Microsoft Sites (9.6 percent), AOL LLC (4.9 percent), and Ask Network (4.6 percent). (more…)

comScore says that heavy users of U.S. blog sites are significantly more likely than the average Internet user to consume news and entertainment content online. “As blogs continue to grow in both quality and audience size, both traditional and non-traditional advertisers are increasingly putting their online ad dollars towards reaching this group of consumers,” said Jack Flanagan, executive vice president of comScore. ComScore released rankings of the top U.S. Internet properties based on the number of display ad impressions delivered.
Yahoo! Sites ranked as the top display ad publisher property in November, with 18.8 percent of display ad views, followed by Fox Interactive (16.3 percent), Microsoft Sites (6.7 percent), Time Warner Network (5.8 percent) and Facebook.com (1.5 percent). Nearly half (49.1 percent) of all display ads seen by U.S. Internet users originate on only five properties, illustrating the concentration of advertising among a few properties.
