Advanced Micro Devices is passing on Netbooks. AMD Chief Executive Dirk Meyer said Thursday: “We’re ignoring the Netbook phenomenon–just thinking about PC form factors above that form factor”, according to CNet’s Nanotech blog. I think this is a huge mistake. Because netbooks show explosive growth, they in fact fueled laptop sales growth all over the world, both in developped markets and in fast growing economies like India & China, because of the price factor.

Update! Gartner on Q3 PC sales in W. Europe:

“The market position of vendors was largely determined by those that shipped mini-notebooks and those that did not,” said Ranjit Atwal, principal analyst at Gartner

LG Electronics plans to combine its PC and phone businesses in order to focus on converged products. Under the plan, the PC business unit will transfer from LG’s Digital Media (DM) business division to its Mobile Communication (MC) business division. No job cuts would result from the reorganisation.
