LG unifies PC and mobile handset divisions

LG Electronics plans to combine its PC and phone businesses in order to focus on converged products. Under the plan, the PC business unit will transfer from LG’s Digital Media (DM) business division to its Mobile Communication (MC) business division. No job cuts would result from the reorganisation.

Nokia unveiled three new phone models, targeting the highly competitive market for mid-priced phones. Nokia said shipments of the new phones — the Nokia 6600 Fold, the Nokia 6600 Slide and Nokia 3600 Slide — would start during the third quarter.

Motorola invests in ‘virtual OS’ for mobile phones

Motorola has become the latest big name to invest in VirtualLogix, a maker of virtualisation software that allows multiple operating systems to run on the same mobile device. Motorola made its investment via its strategic venture capital arm, Motorola Ventures, but did not disclose financial details. VirtualLogix’s other investors include Cisco, Intel and Texas Instruments.
