McAfee announced the release of startling research that reveals the true cost of cyber attacks on small and medium sized businesses (SMBs). A key misconception revealed by the survey is that many SMBs feel they are too small to be targets for cybercriminals. After sampling 500 IT decision-makers from companies with 1,000 - 2,000 employees, the report reveals that a third (32 percent) of small and medium businesses in the United States and Canada have been attacked more than four times by cybercriminals in the last three years. The research concludes that a quarter of those attacked (26 percent) took at least a week to recover, a devastating length of time to be offline for small businesses who conduct business and sales via the Web. Recovery time in Canada was even greater, with a third (36 percent) taking a week or more to fully restore their systems. (more…)

F-Secure announced Mobile Security product for the UIQ platform. F-Secure and Sony Ericsson are partnering on supplying mobile security to Sony Ericsson’s smartphones. A trial version of the F-Secure Mobile Security(TM) 3.3 for UIQ will be available in selected Sony Ericsson UIQ devices. The new Dr. Web antivirus, from Russia with love, protects only from viruses written specifically for wireless. Today a number of such specific threats is very small. Their malicious capabilities do not impose serious danger to owners of expensive gadgets. According to ZDnet Google is seeking an “investigator / threat analyst” to check on it’s own employees who don’t obey rules or act against Google’s intrests. This will be working with the Director of Corporate Safety & Security, and will be responsible for investigating deviations from company policies or acts against Google as well as collection and analysis of information helping define and assess threats to Google’s operations and assets. Before Boeing 787 jetliner gets the green light to fly passengers, the aircraft maker will have to prove that offering Internet access in the cabin won’t leave the flight controls vulnerable to hackers and hijackers. Company claims it has engineered security measures to shut out unauthorized access, but some security analysts worry that navigation and communications systems could be vulnerable. (more…)
