Vodafone Romania announces key performance indicators for the six months ended September 30, 2008,  as reported today by Vodafone Group Plc. In the first semester on the financial year 2008/2009, ended September 30, 2008,, total revenue reached EURO 615 million, for a 7.7% year on year increase, at constant exchange rate. Service revenue reached EURO 586.5 million, representing a 7.5% increase compared with the same period last year, at constant exchange rate. (more…)

  • New research from Vodafone UK reveals many UK businesses appear unsure as to how to secure mobile devices effectively – with nearly a quarter of all businesses having experienced security issues as a result of employees using laptops or mobile email devices outside of working hours and in contravention of company security policies.
    Managing the new generation of mobile devices, from connected laptops to smart phones, is the new challenge faced by IT departments. Today’s devices not only have the capability to access corporate networks, but can also store large amounts of potentially sensitive data. Vodafone’s research highlights the potential risks that mobile workers are inadvertently creating through non-compliance with IT security policies. (more…)

  • Vodafone has confirmed Spanish press reports that the group is seeking €670 million in damages - almost US$1 billion - from rival Spanish operator Telefonica (source). A Vodafone spokesman confirmed a report in Spanish daily El Pais that the claim relates to a 2006 Supreme Court ruling that found Telefonica gulity of violating competition rules in Spain between October 1995 and December 1999 - a situation that allegedly negatively affected Airtel, the Spanish mobile firm acquired by Vodafone in 2000.

  • Vodafone to launch iPhone in India

    The latest round of rumours concerning the iPhone suggest that Apple is planning to launch the device in India in September with Vodafone as its exclusive operator partner. A report in India’s Business Standard newspaper, which quotes an Apple retail source, said that the 8Gb iPhone will be launched by Vodafone in the first week of September with a price tag of around Rs28,000 (US$700), while the 16Gb version of the device is set for launch next year. India would become iPhone’s largest market to date. According to Wireless Intelligence data, Vodafone’s Indian subsidiary is the second-largest mobile operator in the country with 39.8 million subscribers. (more…)
